Sacred to the local population for centuries, it was home to the first roman settlement in the area, called Villa Martis, because of the oak forest arising in the valley, that was slowly converted into vineyards.
Property of the Marchesi di Gresy family since 1797, Martinenga is home to our winery and to one of the finest expressions of Barbaresco d.o.c.g.
A south-facing natural amphiteatre of twelve hectares gently embraces the winery, in the heart of the Barbaresco appellation, of which it represents the only MeGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva) to be bottled entirely by a single producer.
The ideal southern exposure, the richness of the soil - a mixture of limestone and blue marl - and the diligent work of Martinenga's grape growers produce wines of extraordinary class, breeding and finesse, even in difficult vintages.
The terroir in Martinenga is extraordinary complex and the nebbiolo grape is a master in reading the soil, able to translate the slightest nuance of the microclimate into the bottle.
Because of this we chose to second the natural diversity of our harmonic vineyard, identifying two more selections inside it, Gaiun and Camp Gros, which from the opposite ends of the amphiteatre give life to the highest expressions of Martinenga.
